My Character: Alec
Real age: 400
Apparent age (if a vampire): 16
Gender: Male
Type of being: Vampire
Diet preference: Non-vegetarian
Power: Sensory paralysis. He has the ability to cut off a person's senses. He can make them blind, deaf, and numb to any feeling if he wishes to, allowing the Volturi to easily execute their prey/enemies. His power is one of the primary reasons that the Volturi are untouchable. When he uses his gift, it appears in the form of a clear hazy mist. Alec can affect multiple targets; however it takes time to creep up. Alec and Jane are believed to be the most powerful, or two of the most powerful vampires in the world, due to their amazing offensive gifts.
About the Character:
APPEARANCE: Despite being 400 years old, Alec appears to be a teenager. He stands at an average height of 5’5”, and has an athletic build. He is always seen in dark trousers and an old-fashioned matching jacket. His undershirt is always a collared shirt, whether it be black or red, his preferred colors. He keeps his dark brown hair neat and swept to the side. His skin is a pale ivory, contrasting sharply with the bright red of his eyes, and he is what many would consider incredibly beautiful. When exposed to sunlight, his skin will sparkle like diamonds, making it very difficult to blend in with the human population. Purplish-black bruises appear under his eyes, becoming more pronounced with thirst. While he may have once had boyish features and blemishes, his skin is now perfect, cold, and smooth like marble.
PERSONALITY:
Alec is more lively, less sadistic, and calmer than his twin sister Jane. However, this should not be taken as him having a kind nature. He is quiet, but he is also extremely ruthless and self-interested. Alec’s actions are for Alec, no one else, save for instances where he would help his sister. Alec has no remorse for taking life and carrying out the Volturi’s frequently violent missions. He has a quiet confidence about him that, given his readiness to kill, is usually terrifying. Alec is not apathetic like most of the Volturi Guard, and he takes delight in teasing the others. Alec does not have as great a temper as his twin sister; however, his quietness can be equally as frightening. Alec is very cold and calculating, and will often be the one who will attack without warning. All in all, Alec is not someone a person would want to cross, nor encounter if they can avoid it.
HISTORY:
Alec and Jane Fischer were born on March 31st, 1610 in the small village of Langenburg, Germany to Anna and Christian Fischer, the local village miller. When they were younger, they were a delight to be around, and they were loved by the villagers. The twins would always lend a helping hand when needed. However, their parents were a different story. Christian, as the village miller, was not well-liked, as he could withhold grain, charge too much, or beef up his grain with sawdust and no one would ever know. He was also very well off, and while his wife did deliver cakes for special occasions to the villagers, she was outspoken and did little to quell the rumors.
When they were five, their father died suddenly of an unknown illness. Across the world, witchcraft was predominant and many were being burned at the stakes. Around the same time that their father died, several other males died mysteriously. Their mother became withdrawn, using foul language, cursing, and drinking heavily. The twins were at a loss as to what to do, and discovered they could only rely on each other, especially when their mother would throw an especially dangerous fit. One time, Jane was almost thrown out an upstairs window, and it was only because of Alec’s quick reaction to grab a hold of his sister’s arm that she didn’t fall. It soon came to light that their mother had make several cakes for the families whose fathers had died around the same time as the twins’ father. On Shrove Tuesday in 1615, their neighbors accused Anna Fischer of witchcraft and poisoning and threw her in prison. The twins were sent to live with a friend of the family, Eva and Daniel Hessler, who lived in the same village. Anna was put on trial and sentenced to burning at the stake. Despite Eva trying to keep the twins away from the execution, they wanted to see their mother. They reached the village square just as the sentence was carried out, and watched their mother die before them, her screams forever echoing in their ears.
It was no surprise then that the twins became more withdrawn, only speaking with each other and lashing out verbally when anyone would go near them. Village life was not easy, especially when Germany was still reeling from war-time indignities and striving to become more modern. Alec and Jane only had each other, despite the attempt of Eva to make them feel at home. It also didn’t help that Daniel Hessler was seen often with other ladies, and never home. When Eva wasn’t around, Daniel would often try to hurt the twins, both verbally and physically. Strange things would often happen around them if either was angry or hurt, such as people suddenly dropping into convulsions, or others suddenly becoming completely numb.
One time, when they were eleven years old, Alec and Jane were playing out in the yard with a neighbor’s friendly dog, and Daniel came home after drinking too much. He saw them, and immediately headed straight to them, aiming to hurt the twins because the barking of the dog and their laughter annoyed him. Eva saw this and ran outside, trying to stop him. Daniel backhanded her, leaving her stunned on the ground, and grabbed Jane around the throat. He lifted her into the air with both hands, squeezing her throat in an attempt to strangle her. Alec tried to stop him, pulling on his arms and yelling at him to leave his sister alone. A mist began to form, rolling across the ground and creeping up Daniel’s legs. Daniel froze, finding himself suddenly unable to move, and dropped Jane. Jane, luckily, landed clumsily on her feet, but even as she held her throat, pain visible in her features, she was glaring at Daniel. Daniel fell to the ground, convulsing in pain, and both twins ran then, frightened at what had happened. They ran until they reached the edge of the woods, falling to the ground in front of a rather large tree and holding onto each other, not knowing what had happened, and scared.
It was at this time that they would first meet Aro, a tall man with long, dark hair, whose ivory skin was flawless, and his eyes a deep red. The twins were still holding each other when he approached them, cloaked in a hooded robe, most of his features hidden from them. When he crouched down beside them, they were afraid at first, but he touched Alec’s arm with a soft smile. Alec and Jane stilled at that moment, unsure at what was going on, and then the man introduced himself. He told them he was a friend, that he had been watching them for quite some time, and that they were both very special. He seemed to know everything about them, and so, in their minds, he must have known their parents because he only knew things that family and friends would know. He left them at that time, telling them that he would be back one day, and told them not to be afraid of their special abilities. These were not things to be afraid of, and that they should use them whenever they felt threatened. The villagers wouldn’t understand. They were the only ones who could protect themselves.
Aro left them, and the twins returned later that day to the village. Eva refused to talk to them, and Daniel avoided them. The twins didn’t know what had happened, but when the rest of the village began to give them dark looks, or veer away from them whenever they drew close, they were hurt. However, they also remembered what Aro had told them, and remained loyal to each other. Their personalities began to darken over the next year as the villagers seemed to shun them, and soon they were both forced to make a home for themselves in the forest. One time when Jane went into the village to steal food, three of the village boys cornered her, calling her a witch. She retorted angrily and threw a rock at them. They continued to call her names, not allowing her to get away from them. Alec came into the village to look for her and found the boys trying to hurt his sister. Quietly, with a hidden menace in his voice, he told the boys to leave her alone. When they refused, Alec’s eyes met Jane’s, and together they killed the three boys. They snuck through the shadows to go back to their shelter before anyone could see them, and while they were afraid of what they had done, they realized it also felt good to get the upper hand on the people who had tried to do them harm.
That night, while Alec and Jane were sleeping, the villagers hunted the two twins down, dragging them from their sleeping spot kicking and screaming. They took down several of the villagers with their abilities, but they were quickly knocked unconscious. It was the heat that woke them as fires began to grow beneath their feet. Alec and Jane were terrified and struggled to free themselves from the stakes at which they were tied to. It was then that Aro appeared, slaughtering the entire village before them, and rescuing them from the fires. At that moment, he turned them both into vampires, and took them to Volterra to become part of the Volturi. Over the years, they quickly became the most valued member of the guard, due to their incredibly powerful gifts. Alec rose to become one of the highest ranked guards, his nature darkening over the years, along with his sister’s. This showed in his ruthlessness during the clash between the Volturi and the Cullens in the meadow, when Alec first saw Renesmee and discovered that his ability could not penetrate Bella Cullen’s shield. There may still be remnants of that happy boy from centuries ago, but one would have to dig extremely deep.

Secrets: The best kept secret of all: he's a vampire
Writing Sample:
Several members of the Volturi guard had been deployed to Oldenburg, Germany to take care of a small band of rogue vampires that had decided to wreak havoc on the small town. Word had begun to travel from the town to other, larger towns, and the Volturi would not stand for it. It was for the overall well-being of all vampires, of course, for if they were ousted, life would become extremely difficult. Rules were meant to be followed, and Alec was more than happy to enforce them. Alec, along with his sister Jane, who never was too far from him, as well as several other Volturi Guard were presently outside the village. They kept to the forest, observing at the moment. Alec was dressed in his traditional black trousers, old-fashioned buttoned jacket, with a dark-red shirt underneath. He swept some of his brown hair from his eyes, their blood-colored depths piercing the darkness with ease. The Volturi guard was spaced out around the village, but they could all hear every crack of a twig, every fall of a leaf, and all other sounds in the area with perfect clarity.
Being back in Germany brought ancient memories to the surface of Alec’s mind, which he quickly banished. They were not good memories and it was nothing he cared to remember. He had found his true family with the Volturi, and this was his place in life. He had been pathetically weak back then, and while he had never been the abrasive, loud type, his cold, quiet demeanor could frighten away even the largest of vampires. They knew what he could do, and if they were smart, they didn’t cross him. Alec could sense the bond between him and his sister, a bond that had never broken since birth. It was the bond between twins, and one that had only strengthened over the centuries. He could feel her anticipation; she was ready for a fight. So was he. A smirk appeared upon Alec’s lips as he sensed the over-confident rogue vampires racing into a nearby clearing. They had dinner with them. Too bad they would be interrupted.
Less than a blink of an eye later, the Volturi Guard surrounded the clearing. Alec focused his power upon the group of laughing vampires, and a eerie-looking mist began to roll across the ground, enshrouding the vampires. Some of them began to look around, confused by the sudden appearance of the mist; others were too busy taunting their meals: three teenage girls and one teenage boy. As soon as the mist reached them, the vampires, along with their prey, found their senses completely gone. They were essentially frozen, unable to do something. Then all hell was unleashed as the rest of the guard, along with his beloved sister, dispatched the vampires in a blood bath. Alec watched without a trace of emotion upon his usually cool features, although inwardly he was enjoying every moment. The small smile that formed afterwards proved this. They had deserved it. They shouldn’t have been so stupid as to think they could get away with feasting on a town and not being noticed by the humans. There would be cleaning up to do of course, since they couldn’t let those rumors continue. Then it would be dinner time, or desert rather.
