My Character: Jasper Hale (Born as Jasper Whitlock)
Real age: [[age]] 166
Apparent age (if a vampire): 20
Gender: male
Type of being: vampire
Diet preference: vegetarian
Power: Jasper's special ability is emotions. He feels them, and even more importantly, he can influence them in those nearby. It is a subtle but very powerful tool, most often used to calm tempers or fears. But knowing about the power of his abilities, and how they had been used (not to say abused) in the past he uses them sparingly.
About the Character:
Jasper Whitlock was born in Texas. Jasper is tall and lean, with just enough muscle to make his build well proportioned without looking heavy. A shining golden mop of hair frames his finely cut face and somehow sets in good contrast every shade of eye color he goes through rom golden to black, depending on how long it has been since he last fed. As among the Cullen family he is the least resilient to Alice's attempts to use everyone as a dress doll, Jasper's usual attire tends to be stylish and fashionable than he otherwise would have chosed, being more the practical kind himself.
At the time when Jasper was turned he was a soldier during the civil war. He had joined the ranks at the age of 17 - lying about his age of course. Because of what people called his charisma he had risen quickly through the ranks, and Maria - the vampire who turned him, saw potential in him for her own little army. That was the time of a lot of strife between various vampire clans - never as bad a during the vampire wars in the South, which in the end had been ended by the Volturi by literally destroying everyone involved. These little skirmishes were too small too catch the Volturies attention, but they still cost many lives.
Jasper spent the next few decades training up young vampires for Maria, and later killing them once they outlived their usefulness. Once, when it was time for those killings again Peter, the vampire he was working with warned one of the victims, a female he was fond of and ran off with her. Jasper did not pursue them, and while that decicion certainly got him into some trouble with Maria, his status as a very useful member of her group warded off the worst consequences.
That could not last forever, though. After a while his relationship with Maria started to move toward that point where it became more and more possible that she might destroy him if he did not move first, and generally he had become more and more depressed with the situation. Hence, when Peter returned it did not take much convincing for Jasper to leave Maria and join him.
Having spent several years of his human life and then a large part of his vampire life as a soldier turned him into an exceptional fighter who knows how to counter an opponent's superior strength especially. Despite Emmet's more bulky and strong appearance (just to avoid the word "scarier") it is Jasper who is probably the most dangerous of the Cullen family. He has killed more often than he likes to remember, and tried hard to leave that part of his life behind him. Still, being a soldier and seasoned fighter in both lives has left its mark, and he has not fully shaken the calm and calculating - and sometimes cold - manner.
The life with Peter and Charlote was something completely different. There was freedom, peace, no need to look over his shoulder all the time, no .. well, there was violence still. Jasper's new companions could not understand his growing aversion to killing his human prey to feed, but even though he saw no alternative either, the deaths became harder and harder for him to bear, and in the end he left Peter and Charlote as well.
The turning point came on a rainy night in Philadelphia, when he met Alice, who had been waiting for him, having seen not only his arrival but also Carlisle and his family. She gave him hope and, as far as Jasper is concerned, a whole new life.
Together they joined the Cullen family, and adopted their vegetarian lifestyle. Although he was glad about the possibility not to feed on humans anymore when he could not longer stand the onlsaught of emotions from his victims during the hunt, the latter proved exceedingly difficult for Jasper, who over a hundred years had gotten used to feeding freely whenever his thirst called. As a result he keeps such a firm control over himself whenever humans are near, and he would appear quiet and stiff and maybe distant.
His love for Alice is more of the quiet devotion type than outgoing. He's as protective of her as anyone can be, and even though he knows that Alice can take care of herself, there is no doubt that he would without hesitation take any risk on himself to spare her whenever possible.

Secrets:
Jasper had never really been too much into cars until Alice got her Porche. By now he naps it at every opportunity and even regrets not having accepted the motorcycle Edward had once bought. And secretly he is secretly coveting the newest Audi roadster. He would also never admit how much he actually enjoys the shopping trips with Alice, laughing at his brothers complaints when they get dragged along. But he knows that his enjoyment is mostly due to his ability to bask in Alice's happiness at those occasions.
Lately Jasper has started to get into drawing and painting. Since he's as musical as a brick it's the only way to express the emotional world he lives in, and he finds it to be a good outlet. It's not really a secret - except that much of the sketching he does in secret under the table, catching people in everyday poses.
Writing Sample:
"I really hope you survive, Jasper."
Jasper still stood there lwithout moving, struck dumb by the woman's ethernal beauty and unable to make sense of what was happening. His instincts were screaming at him, warning me of danger. He was a soldier, a good one even, and you did not live long in war unless you learned to heed such warnings. In reality it did not matter, though. He could have run, he could have pulled a gun and emptied the whole clip right there and it wouldn't have made a difference. Maria was just too fast. She was a vampire after all, and she attacked.
The horse reared and tore the reign from Jasper's hand, disappearing into the night. He himself was thrown to the ground and held there, but being the fighter he was, he tried to defend himself, unwilling to give in to the panic and horror that threatened to overcome his mind. This simply could not be real. Maria allowed his squirming, laughing and sometimes encouraging my struggles she toyed with him. Sometimes she would yield a little to his efforts, only to lock him in an inescapable grip again the next moment.
Later Jasper would wonder how she did it, since the game must have made it even harder for her to resist the blood frenzy. It might have been a kind of test to see whether I would be worth the trouble at all. After several minutes, though, her patience ran out. She tore away the front of his already badly battered uniform, and bit down on his collar bone.
The sensation was undescribable. Jasper had been bitten before, but that had been done by the many lovers officers like him had no trouble finding, playful, and hardly painful. This bite felt like someone cut through his skin with a red-hot metal knife. And the pain did not stop. The venom spread with relentless efficiency, and as it did, so did the pain.
Did you read the rules?: I’ve never seen anyone so prone to life-threatening idiocy.
